Raku & Clay Art

RAKU was developed in Japan during the 16th century.

Each clay piece is formed, dried, and fired. Glazes are then applied to
obtain various colors and textures. Next, the pieces are placed in a
quick firing kiln (1800 degrees). When the glaze has thoroughly
melted, the red hot items are lifted out and placed a container of combustible material (newspaper). When the desired effect is
accomplished, each is immersed in water to set the color. The cracking
designs are created by the extreme changes in temperature.  Each
finished product is unique and unpredictable in design and color.Raku Vase
